Post-Doctoral Position in Statistical Genetics.

 

Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position at the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at McMaster University. The successful candidate will work with Dr. Angelo Canty and his collaborators on derivation of methods to deal with complex datasets arising from genetic experiments including genome-wide association studies for complex pheontypes, next generation sequencing data and the analysis of gene expression miocroarray data. The work will involve real datasets as well as designing and running complex simulation studies to examine new methodology in realistic settings. It will also require communicating and working closely with collaborators in the biological and medical sciences. Other duties will include teaching one course in statistics each term.

 

The successful candidate will have a PhD in statistics, biostatistics or a related area with very strong statistical training. Excellent programming skills in R (or S-Plus) are essential as are strong written and oral communication skills in English. Prior experience with statistical analysis of genetic data would be beneficial but is not required.

 

The position will ideally commence on or before July 1, 2012 and provides a stipend of $42,000 plus a grant for research expenses. It is expected to be tenable for two years depending on research funding. Consideration of applicants will commence on February 20, 2012 and continue until the position is filled.
